“It occurs to me that a big problem the startup/venture community persistently exhibits is an utter lack of collaborative communication between and among investors and their portfolio companies. I do not mean the communication that occurs between a CEO and his or her top one or two investors, but rather that between the company and all of its investors, including investor-to-investor communication.
For various negatively defensive reasons, companies tend to keep their investors in silos – by stage/type/class of shares/amount invested, etc. I have portfolio companies that consider themselves too advanced to share their latest cap table (with names!) I have PortCos that blind-copy everyone. I have those that, if they meet with investors at all, only meet with them one-at-a-time, which means they meet with a few asking to meet and never with the rest.”
