The Arizona Commerce Authority has chosen 10 local startups, including seven software companies, as winners in its Fall 2018 round of the revamped Arizona Innovation Challenge.

The business plan competition for promising early-stage companies in high-growth industries awards $1.5 million twice a year to the most qualified, innovative startups. The money is intended to grow their business to advance innovation and technology commercialization opportunities in Arizona.

In September, ACA executives said the reconfiguration is an attempt to reward and mentor more up-and-coming local companies.

The 10 winning recipients will receive as much as $150,000 each, released in phases as each company reaches certain milestones.
