How We Work

Training Classes

We hold educational programs each year covering angel investing topics such as investing trends, term sheets, investment portfolios, due diligence and more.

Screening Meetings

The Desert Angels operations team meets weekly to review company submissions to quickly provide a yes/no answer to submitting companies. We want to avoid the series of back-and-forths that historically has dragged out the angel decision process.   Companies will answer a questionnaire in our startup ecosystem, DealIQ™. This questionnaire has two stages: a set of questions is answered in the first stage and reviewed by the operations team, and then if the company passes that stage, additional questions are asked in stage 2. Successful companies can often pass through these two stages within two weeks.   Companies that pass both stages are invited to present at a screening panel meeting. If there is sufficient interest at that meeting, the company is invited to present at the next  Member Meeting.

Screening Panel

A formal pitch event featuring companies who passed the pre-screening review and who have received sufficient member interest.

Member Meeting

A formal monthly pitch event featuring up to three companies hosted both online and in person in downtown Tucson.

Internal Follow-Up

Members with interest in a company coming out of the Member meeting volunteer to further evaluate the company to determine whether or not to move forward to due diligence.

Due Diligence Meetings

Small groups of Desert Angels members are responsible for evaluating a company’s investment potential. Due Diligence typically extends across multiple meetings conducted throughout 1 to 3 weeks. After its work, the Due Diligence group produces a “Due Diligence Report” to benefit the group as a whole.

Portfolio Update

An event featuring live updates from Desert Angels portfolio companies. A portfolio update may be delivered by the Company itself, or by the Deal Lead associated with the group’s investment in the associated company. Portfolio updates may be delivered via Zoom or in person at a member meeting.

Investor Conferences

Regional or National single or multi-day conferences where thematic sessions, quality content, interactive discussions, and vibrant networking elevate your angel investing experience.

Social Networking Events

A social event for getting to know fellow members & portfolio company founders outside of the formal pitch environment. Typically, these events are held in the late Spring or early Summer, and between Thanksgiving and the New Year holidays.
