07/31/2026 – We don’t accept that anywhere else. Pilots log hundreds of hours in simulators before they carry passengers. Athletes run the play a thousand times before game day. But in surgery, “see one, do one, teach one” has been the model for over a century, and the “do one” still frequently means doing it live.
It’s not because surgeons don’t want to practice. It’s because realistic practice has been extremely hard to build. Cadavers are scarce and expensive, and they don’t behave like living tissue. The tools simply haven’t kept up with the stakes.
That gap is the whole reason ReSuture exists. But I think it points to a bigger question the field is starting to ask: if we can measure and rehearse almost every other high-stakes skill, why not this one?”
