Membership benefits include monthly presentation meetings; an online platform for both deal and portfolio tracking; access to vetted deal flow, monthly screening meetings, and portfolio update presentations; a team-based diligence approach; deal syndication with other angel groups; and membership in the Angel Capital Association and Angel Syndication Network. A virtual element is available for all business meetings.
Monthly presentation meetings provide an opportunity for members to connect, listen to companies present their investment opportunities, and learn from nationally recognized speakers including successful entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and thoughtful leaders in the angel investment community.
We encourage prospective members to join us at a dinner meeting as guests of the organization to learn more about angel investing, meet our existing members, and observe how Desert Angels evaluates early-stage venture opportunities. We are confident you will find our meetings to be both informative and enjoyable.
Under federal law, only Accredited Investors may become members of angel investment groups, including Desert Angels. Accredited Investors are defined as individuals who have an individual net worth, or joint net worth with a spouse, of at least $1,000,000; or individuals with annual income above $200,000 if single, or $300,000 if married. Membership privileges are non-transferable and will renew if the Member remains active and complies with the Desert Angels’ code of conduct.
Type 1: Professional (Resident) Membership $2,300
Acting primarily on their own behalf as an individual accredited investor, Resident Membership includes online access to Desert Angels member deals and data room, member messaging, diligence materials, and general correspondence. Membership also includes an invitation to all Member meetings, diligence meetings, and other activities, including screening committee participation.
Type 2: Family (Resident) Membership $3,450
Acting primarily on their own behalf as an individual accredited investor but including a 2nd family member (spouse, sibling, parent, cousin, child, etc.) participating together with each having their own online account. Both Family Members must be accredited investors. Both have online account access to Desert Angels member deals and data room, member messaging, diligence materials, and general correspondence. Both are invited to all Member dinner meetings.
Type 3: Affiliate Membership $2,300
This is an organization or association that represents a strategic partnership for Desert Angels. Affiliate members may include professional investment organizations, regional economic development organizations, or academic institutions. Affiliate Members may be engaged for educational purposes and typically will not meet accreditation requirements and therefore are exempt from the investment requirements. However, they are welcome to participate in investment opportunities provided they meet the SEC accreditation. Affiliate Members have online account access to Desert Angels member deals and data room, member messaging, diligence materials, and general correspondence.
Type 4: Virtual Membership $ 1,500
Acting primarily on their own behalf as an individual accredited investor and engaging exclusively only from a virtual position. Membership includes online account access to Desert Angels member deals and data room, member messaging, diligence materials, and general correspondence. Virtual members are welcome to participate in any virtual activity, which may include educational sessions, screening panel meetings, deep-dive discussions, and dinner meetings where virtual access is provided. The intent is to provide an exclusively virtual engagement. Virtual members who wish to attend additional in-person meetings may convert their membership at any time to Resident and pay the pro-rated membership difference.

Joann MacMaster was elected to be the Chief Executive Officer of Desert Angels, Inc. in January 2020. Prior to taking on the CEO role with Desert Angels, MacMaster served as the Sr. Director of Venture Development for the University of Arizona’s TLA team, focused on the commercialization of university research through the development of startup companies. She has served as a startup founder, mentor, investor, and educator, and is a recipient of the Larry Hecker and Sherry Hoskinson Lasting Community Builder Award. She is an AUTM board member and UA Academic Leadership Institute Fellow and previously served as President of the Arizona Business Incubation Association. She returned home to Tucson in 2000 after living and working in Europe for over a decade and holds an MBA from Edinburgh University Scotland.

The Desert Angels Board of Directors elected Jeffrey Lang to serve as Chairman of the Board in January 2020. Prior to taking on this role, Jeffrey served on the Desert Angels Board. His career includes more than 30 years in roles including executive management experience as CEO, COO, CFO & CTO of companies from $10MM to $200MM turnover. For more than 10 years, Jeff has been actively involved in startup to mid-level angel and private equity investment, board level, and advisory efforts. As a member of Desert Angels, he has invested in more than 35 businesses involved with industries ranging across consumer products, medical instrumentation, software development, and healthcare research and product development.
